The WNW had it's meeting tonight the 28th. The guest speaker starting the year was Sheriff Tony Cameron who gave an interesting talk about what has happened in the last few months and also how his department spent some of the stimulas money that was given to the county. We now have new "Command Center" that can be moved from place to place as needed.
There is also an "armoured vehicle.

Both of them can be seen at one of our meetings in the next few months.
I will make sure that it is posted either at the post office or the Whisper.

We also had our election of officers and they are as follows:

Coordinator Ruth Ford
Co-coordinator Betty Barnes
Secy/Treas. Tim Steichen
Publicity/food Jane Campbell

Also
Guest speakers Jane Campbell,
I would love to have some phone calls or emails from the community about who they would be interested in hearing.

We will be setting up a schedule for having The CPR class again.
It will be in April and will be a SATURDAY which will be one class from approx. 8AM to 4PM with time for a lunch break and 2 THURSDAY evenings from approx. 5 PM to 9PM.
I really need to get the scheduling done so I would appreciate a phone call or email in the next 2 weeks. There will be 10 people per class and I am sure that it will fill up quickly.
These classes are certified classes, so if you need to re certify this would be way to go
These are free classes.

Our next meeting is February 25th at 7 PM. at the Blake Lowe Building.
Refreshments are served first, then the guest speaker and then the general meeting.
I hope to see you there.

Wellborn My Hometown was represented at a Black Belt Taekwondo event in Dallas Texas by Alice Geiger. The Geigers knew that your blooger's son is a Texan and invited me to ride along keeping Alice company and enabling a visit with son and his wife..
It was a delightful eye opener weekend of watching Alice amongst thousands of other Taekwondo enthusiasts. She did us proud.

We returned home after 2000 safe miles traveled gratefully. Added to the "There is no place like home" euphoria was a wonderful bit of family history from london U.K.: a birth announcement of a 5th great grandbaby! She arrived Sunday January 17,2010.
It came in an e-maiil including same day fotos of Daddy Steve & Mom Jess, 2 year old sister Lark and newborn Kate!

DON'T LOSE YOUR SENSE OF AWE. It's a great life!

Trouble in cyberspace: :-( The video which was here has disappeared. BUMMER :-(

My good neighbor Dale Barrett is a transplant from Kentucky. Today is a basketball contest between Kentucky and Florida. His daughter Francheska is a Gator fan. Its a Father-Daughter adventure to wear school's colors and enjoy the rivalry in Gainesville this day together. Dale's birthday is imminent, January 26th, and this is a milestone one deserving much celebration. The basketball fun allows him to start early on that.

When volunteers were sought to help with the cleanup after Hank Whisnant's burnout whereby Hank lost home and business, a total disaster caused by juvenile arson, Dale Barrett volunteered with his big tractor and front end loader to accomplish the final removal of piles of burned debris.

The same volunteers were involved with the cleanup again today Tuesday. Today Hank and a friend loaded two flatbed trailers with metal debris for the Salvage Yard hoping to realize some cash. Volunteers will be watching and working at the cleanup and keeping us safe through it all. Today Hank said "It is still really tough but I can look at what was my home and place of business and I know I have good memories of happy times in this place." This is a "one Day At A Time" segment in Hanks story. It comforts me to know that God knows how it will all work out for Hank and for each of us too.

In this photo Hank Whisnant asks volunteer Ron Torres his name. Marlin Knight joins the little group of new friends.

Webdell Snowden, Wayne Brooks, WVFD Chief Tom Maynard, Charles Osgood, Marlin Knigtht, Ron Torres and Austin volunteered on a very cold Monday. Some started at 8 A.M. and some kept at it til 5 PM. Hank said it was 15 degrees at his temporary camper home. 5 gallons of fuel burned up completely during the night of running a borrowed generator. in one photo here Hank introduces himself to Ron Torres and Marlin Knight.
The man using the axe in the video is Wendell Snowden, WCA president. He organized us into putting action behind sentiment. Wendell reports that the FishFryFirday take was good , over 200 dinners sold plus $ donations and cakes&cookies sales. It was presented to Hank the same night and was a generous boost. The funds gift was wrapped in love, hope and encouragement.

This handsome couple is just learning about our hometown. The benefit fishfry for Hank Whisnant was a good introduction to our neighborliness. They live on Lake Jeffrey road and are Pastor Daryl Richardson and First Lady Linda Richardson of the newest Christian congregation in town, Unity of God. You can find them Sunday mornings @ 10:30 meeting in the old Wellborn Baptist building on CR 137 and again Wednesday evenings @ 7PM.

Betty Barnes in the kitchen turned around at just the right time for a foto. Ruth Ford chaired the event and she thanks many many volunteers who made a very good thing happen in our hometown

Hank Whisnant (with the brown ranchers). heart is warmed by the outpouring of love and caring. A friend sat with him and his sister and great nephew came to be with him and us.

Kelcy McBreairty and two Snowdens, Wendell and his daughter at camera time,(daughter was giving mom time to eat her dinner) greeted and welcomed everyone.
Russell Smith had just carried in a huge bowl of hush puppies from the outdoors fishfrying and hushpuppy making crew. It was cold out there. He and wife, Colleen were grateful not to be where son David was in Pennsylvania. David was guest speaker at a Christian Youth weekend, complete with lots of snow!

The Wellborn community center looked like this as friends and neighbors rally'd for Hank, enjoyed fried fish and each other's company.
The kitchen end was staffed by experienced workers from both civic groups

These are new volunteers chefs and kitchen crew at the first Saturday in 2010 pancake breakfast sponsored by the WCA: Wanda and Walter Russell and Ted and Carla Whitcomb.
When Charles Osgood appeared in the kitchen, Walter Russell asked "Are you my relief" "Nope" said Charles "I'm your supervisor!" :-)
Two more volunteering WCA workers escaped the camera. They are Jack Allred who arrived early (before 7 A.M.) to open the building. put on the coffee etc. The background cheerful music came from Ron Chapel on the keyboard.

Jan Pearce and her daughter Paige served up the pancakes & cleaned up after the breakfast. Paige c an also be seen in her role as drum major for Suwannee High School Band.

Bonnie Scott's smile and WCA blueberry pancakes There could be no better way to start a new year?
