WELLBORN COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION GIFT TO THE HOMETOWN FOLKS WAS A DELICIOUS, DELIGHTFUL THANKSGIVING DINNER SERVED ON SATURDAY NOVEMBER 22.
Ms. Blogger's camera recorded most of the workers by taking 2 snapshots, one from each end of the serving table.
Names are: Charles Osgood, Abby Wotton, Mom Wotton, Bobbi Fenderson, Ruth Ford, Linda Gaylard, Jackie Slaughter, Kathie Snowden, Chris Williams. Jack Allred, Wayne Brooks (with a new beard) and Beanie Brooks (with a broken arm, horse did it, but it wasnt the horses fault, of course).

W.C.A. now looks forward to the Hometown Christmas Party where last year they had 200 happy kids welcoming Santa to Wellborn.
For several years a rumor has been afloat that a Santa sack full of stuffed animals and some extra stockings is stored somewhere. (The joys of group ownership)
Kathie Snowden admitted that the storage shed on Andrews Square got a thorough cleanout looking for them. Silver lining is once it was completely empty the next chapter for the storage shed was regeneration into a very attractive Country Store. BUT no stored away toys or stockings were found, so where did they go ???.
Yesterday, after the art class left, Charles Osgood had reason to go into the space between the ceiling and the roof of the WCA Community Building. GUESS WHAT? The lost toys have been found and just in time for the WCA CHILDRENS CHRISTMAS PARTY. Enjoy The Attic Story and plan to enjoy all us kids at the Christmas Party too.

Maurice Geiger drove his tractor to the Methodist churchyard Saturday workday. It made the the fallen pine tree removal work go quickly. Young helper approved:-)

Roy Van Sise cooks breakfast @ 7:30 A.M. to start volunteers for a Methodist churchyard cleanup Saturday. 2 Good Samaritans,
(Baptists) felled the huge dead pine in the parking lot on Thursday. They did it as a labor of love for the Lord of all.
Roy explained that his father and grandfather both loved to cook and besides he just got a new George Forman grill he wanted to play with. :-) Pastor Jim's sermon Sunday was about using talents for the Lord!

Sunday morning November 16 CHRISTMAS CHILD SHOEBOXES were stacked around the altar at Wellborn United Methodist Church and similarly in other churches I am sure. WUMC Pastor Jim Messer prayed over 43 of them that day which became 53 by the time they were delivered to the collection spot at Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park. From there they join others in Atlanta, Ga.
This ministry is BIG and it is great fun from beginning to end. Boxes are supplied (or a substitute box of your own choice can be used) The dollar store is one of the places volunteer box filling persons smile at each other and say "Let the Christmas Spirit begin". Many many people in hometowns like ours all over this country participate so that truckloads of box gifts go thru bigger collection sites to all kinds of modes of transportation and eventually, in a one for one way, boxes are distributed to children all over the world. $7 per box goes towatd getting them from giver to a child receiver. The message is "Beloved, Let us love one another" and "Let the children come unto me".

A FIRST PUPPY CLUB MEETING @ ALL SPRINGS NOVEMBER 15

I counted 8 puppies and no two alike. Owners were also no 2 alike :-) with just about every decade of age represented in the owners group.
Welcoming the puppies and their owners were Dr Barker, his wife and son, Valerie, Debbie and Carolyn. They were the facilitators.

3 Experts brought in for the Puppy Club were Jen Flynn, Pam Taylor and Julie Mandy, plus of course our hometown vet, Dr Barker, who gave a talk on care and keeping of your puppy empahsizing the importnce of shots, heart worm and flea and tick preventative and diet.

Jen Flynn worked with the puppies in the All Springs waiting room and managed to maintain relative order. :-)
Her message is that dog training needs to be fun for dog and owner. It is a game we play with our dogs and must always accentuate the positive and reward the good behavior. My own ears picked up when she asked "Do you really think a dog can know the boundaries of his property without a fence?" I had hoped so.

When the scene shifted to Andrews Square we acquired more puppies and their persons but that was Ok because there was lots more space..

It was Pam Taylor's turn. Her business card reads;

"THE K9 PROFESSOR, "pawsitive results" Obedience and Assistance Dog Training, Public Access Testing available, Private, In Home, Group, PAM TAYLOR, certified Instructor, 386-965-7258, www,theK9professor.com

Julie Mandy specializes in pet photography. She was busy with her camera for there were many Kodak Moments wanting recording. Julie's phone is 937-7453 and her website is www.myspace.com/jewelsphotography

Wellborn's first Puppy Club was great fun. Here is hoping it happens again and again and that it expands to welcome those pets beyond puppyhood.

ALL SPRINGS VET displayed this sign for a week or two and people came with their puppies Saturday morning.

The owners sat in a circle in the waiting room and introduced themselves and their pets. Bill came with basset puppy Rosie, Grace and her mom Michelle came with Lucky whom they had chosen at the shelter, etc.

Mary Berry called yesterday which was the day after her own 80th birthday celebration.  She and Louis counted their blessing together at the Od Time Country Buffet in Lake City, their very most faovrite place to eat out.

First Thursday in November (6th), your  blogger was one of about 20 folks who profited by listening to a Master Gardener speaker, Peter Hart,  at the Wellborn Whistle Stop.  The topic was "Tree Planting: A Quick Guide For Homeowners".  The handout outline of his wisdom displayed the letterhead of University of Florida Extension with phone numbers for both Columbia and Suwannee County available to answer our questions.  The questions asked at that time showed that newcomers were well represented.  The second speaker was named Judy. Her experience shared was about plants in NorthFlorida  climate and especially how to protect them from freeze.

Wendell Snowden helps blogger Jinny to catchup
His e-mail reads:

The WCA once again had a successful pancake breakfast on November 1 . Head count was 60 adults and 7 children.  We were blessed and I should add that the blessing came all at once with the arrival of 22 really nice & friendly folks who are motor home travelers. They all enjoyed their blueberry pancakes , spent a lot of time chatting , thanked us and remarked about how they enjoyed the visit.  Workers were Walter Russell, main chef, assisted by Wanda, and Jack and Cathy Allred.  Be sure to join us at the Community building.

We are always there on the first Saturday of each month.

PS The Halloween evening went well and we have pictures to prove it.  I have not downloaded yet, but will in the next few days.
PPS What a wonderful family the Wilsons are and what a wonderful man Jack Wilson was.
We knew that but not to the extent that was evident at his funeral service, November 1,'08
May God continue to Bless us all.
