George Scott (right) on a weekend with the re-enactment team. After each event George e-mails a report and our blog is one of 30 recipients.:
"Olustee expo is now behind us and for the attendees it served its pupose. It did work out some bugs. Craig C and Bud T were representing Second Florida and Jim B joined us. We four went Union with about 8 from Larry R's company opposing us as Confederates. We set up a saddle camp on one end of the demonstration field and went generally first person. About 2 PM Larry attacked mounted. We defended with carbines and when they retired, we mounted and skirmished with pistol and then with sabres. That passed for the cavalry demo. We then addressed a surpizingly good number for the expo. The gate was 400+. Drill was exceedingly sloppy with Bud's new horse just learning. I broke the sabre strap on my saddle, losing my blade for the first time in years, and my ten year old feed bag tore in half. GREAT shake down. Big John is planning a get to gether at his place the normal weekend of Horse Landing, and the Hogtown event near Gainesville is Dec 5,6&7. Bob's list of events is posted at http://floridareenactorsonline.com/EventRoster.htm
Bob does a splendid job of tracking and writing Florida events. There are October and November events worth note, and if tyou plan to attend , pls notify and do an after action report.
Respects, George "

Blog reporting on Wellborn action suffered a hiatus this month.
We have a comparative study of doctors offices to offer instead. :-)
Lake City Surgeon Jerzy Polmerski wins the Wilson Award for Best Ambiance. The waiting room decor is restful and tasteful. The receptionist is efficient, gentle and sensitive to the inner turmoil one feels at the prospect of any surgical proceduare, no matter how "routine".
Surgeon Dr. Jerzy Polmerski, himself, has time to explain what to expect .
Our simple procedure was removal of a port that was giving trouble because "Chemo is no longer an option for this metastisized prostate cancer," said Dr. Khan.
By Wednesday husband Jack will have completed his third go round of daily radiation with Dr Schilling. You get a gift coffee cup nad an "atta-boy" from the staff. A year ago focused radiation was the means by which we were granted another year of quality life, so we dare hope that can happen again for us. This four weeks of daily office visits at Community Cancer Center on US 90, L.C., gave opportunity to witness some very brave people fighting back just like us. Goldie Marie Fralick calls us Cancer Crusaders and prayers are said for a list nearing fifty now @ 6 :45 AM Tuesday mornings at the Wellborn Methodist altar. (We welcome fellow prayer warriors.) Dr. Schilling's office gets the Wilson award for Patient Camaraderie ! The morale boost by the young technicians and secretarial people is commendable at Community Cancer Center also. :-)

In 1982 we ourselves actually hand planted one patch of pines with the enthusiasm of neophytes . We learned that bumping along behind the tractor, attempting to place pine seedling in neat rows needed more know how than we brought with us from city living in St Petersburg. Local skill rescued us and they planted most of the acres of pines we have enjoyed living amongst for 26 years. We procrastinated the harvesting, dreading the mess. But this is the week it happened. Five monster machines and five rugged outdoorsmen worked hard in the Wellborn suburbs. The guys smiled when we said "It was a great show." Mr Herbert Thomas and his sons made time for us and our dogs, though, and gave us some insight on the way logging is done nowadays.
We grew some premium logs. They were probably the ones where we had thinned out so that the remaining trees could grow bigger. Some went for pulp and some went for chip and saw. The trucks went to different mills depending on what they were carrying.
This week we did acknowledge and appreciate our interdependence upon one another as we fit together to meet each others needs, by God's grace.

Today's email from Paul Gettinger.
"We went to Sea World for our anniversary and got back the day before my wife, Billie's, 65th birthday.
Enclosed are a couple of pictures".
Billie Gettinger gets more than ordinary pleasure from grandmothering.
...and the love gift goes on for the sharing in a hometown blog.

New WCA member, Tommy Browning, attended the breakfast this morning. It was nice to see member Dee Burt at the breakfast. She is usually working Hospice Saturdays.
Most of the regulars were in attendance and everyone seemd to enjoy visiting.
NEXT WCA function is the FALL YARD SALE ON OCTOBER 4th along with October Pancakes. 12x12 spots are available for $7 to anyone who wants to clean out closets and make a few bucks. Fun starts at 7 AM and ends around 2 PM. Hot dogs will be avaialbe for lunch. Bloodmobile is coming and that makes it easy to donate needed blood.
It will be a great time so tell everyone, please.
At the September BlueberryPancake Saturday George Scott. Jack Allred, Pastor Jim Messer, MaryJane Messer, Jinny Wilson and Cathy Allred smiled for the cameraman who was Wendell Snowden, the meeter, greeter and seater of the month.
The decorative wall was created by and to honor the U.S.Marines whose monthly meeting place is the WCA community building.
Early morning Blueberry Pancakes came with cheery music on the keyboard again this month at the Wellborn Community Association Breakfast
Keyboard artist is Ron Chappel pictured here, a man of many talents:
Song writer and poet. He does jigsaw puzzles on his computer!
"We can cook 24 pancakes simultaneously" says Beanie Brooks as she invited me to take a picture for the My Hometown blog. The grill is the latest upgrade to the Wellborn Community Association facilities.
