The Wellborn Neighborhood Watch will again sponsor a “Candidates Night”.
This time the meeting will be at the Wellborn Community Association Building starting exactly at 6 P.M. (Blogger assumes it is on October's final Thursday evening, WNW regular night.)
Please come early and get a seat.
Some of the candidates have later commitments so we must start on time. Although I sent out letters, emails and made calls to all running on our ballot we will have the following candidates.
State Rep.
Debbie Boyd and Elizabeth Porter
County Judge
Gary E. Brown and William F. (lin) Williams
County Commissioners
Billy C. Maxwell and Philip D. Oxendine
ALSO:
There are 5 constitutional amendments on the ballot that will be explained by guest speaker Adam Prins with qualifications as follows:
As a member of the Live Oak City Council, I recently attended the Florida League of Cities Annual Conference. At that conference, I spent several hours learning about the proposed amendment changes to our Florida Constitution. I have spent several more hours since that training studying the proposed changes. I also met with a councilman from Saint Petersburg Beach, Florida, who is living firsthand what proposed Amendment 4 would likely do to the entire State. They have spent over $750,000 just in legal fees this year because of "Hometown Democracy." This information, coupled with my desire for civic education, encouraged me to share this information I have gained with others. I am delighted to help in any way possible. Written by Adam Prins.
Along with those amendments is a Suwannee Cty School District Referendum and a Nonbinding Statewide Advisory Referendum.
We hope to educate ourselves and the community by having this meeting with our candidates and speakers who are more knowledgeable with our ballot and what the candidates hope to bring to our community with their election.
The address for Wellborn Community Association is 8th Ave. in Wellborn. Turn west at the Kornucopia.
There will be refreshments served.
