We have survived one more filing of income taxes. If you’re not there yet, DO IT TODAY or learn bout getting a deadline extension ! Most of us can breathe a sigh of relief. Now the next thing, a civic obligation for each household, is to fill in the stats on the easy census form already received in the mail. We may differ about what things we want to be governmental responsibility, but everyone agrees it is our personal responsibility to participate mightily.
Once upon as time a farmer responded to a complement about his garden saying “Yep, it looks real good now, but you should have seen it when God had it all by himself!” God could do it all by himself but instead He invites us to work in partnership. It is good.
My friend Mary Berry phoned lately inquiring after my well-being. Our phone visit included news that beloved Helen and Wilmer Cribbs are both at Surrey Place . Next day in room 214, I heard Helen Cribbs testimony of God’s goodness. Travail of failing bodies for them both has been acute. Both of these good people, who are treasured friends to so many in our hometown, are safe thus far.
Another “God did it”, recognized by both Helen and me, is that lifelong friend, Lloyd Adams, and Lloyd’s Wellborn school friend, Bobby Law, have said “Yes” to chairing the annual Wellborn School Reunion, 2010. It is always the third Saturday in April at Wellborn Baptist Church and is a noontime covered dish extravaganza. Folks come early and stay late. Nostalgia reigns. “ Kids” went to Wellborn School 1869 to 1967. Reunions started in 1983 when Helen recruited Bernice Ragens. . In God’s time it became Helen co-chairing with Denward Morgan. Many volunteers helped through these 27 years of annual Wellborn School Reunions

WELLBORN COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION
We really enjoyed hosting the annual Easter Egg Hunt on March 27. Children and adults enjoyed hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, drinks and many, many delicious cupcakes. Faith Sweet, age 7, and Robert Maynard, age 5 were the winners.
WCA members are mostly now occupied with Blueberry Festival preparations. This year’s parade theme is “Red, White and Blueberry,” and entrance in the parade is free. Prizes are awarded in several categories. There is plenty of time – why not build a float and enter the parade? For more info, contact Bobbi Fenderson at 963-2908.
Ruth Ford is chairperson of the Bake-Off Contest. The Bake-Off and Tasting Party will start a little bit later this year so as not to conflict with the Children’s Talent Contest. Once again, there’s no charge to enter and prizes are awarded. For Bake-Off information, contact Ruth at 963-5334. Ruth is also working on a new Blueberry Recipe Cookbook which is planned to be ready by the Festival. Arts and crafts vendors are still needed. Wendell Snowden is vendor chairman and he can be reached at 963-1157. Spaces are 12 X 12, all have water and electric, and the full price for each is $55.00. That includes both days - Friday and Saturday.
Linda Dye is in charge of entertainment and the Talent Contests. This year, the Willow Creek Band will be entertaining us. The Children’s Talent Contest will be held Friday afternoon/evening, and the Adult’s Talent Contest will be held Saturday. For more info on the Talent Contests, contact Linda at 963-4898.
The Country Store will be open both Friday and Saturday selling those delicious blueberry pies and cobblers made locally by Pat Gaylord. Jam and jelly, syrup, muffins, fudge, and more will be available also. Some interesting country decorator items are also on display and for sale in the Store. Store chairperson is Jackie Slaughter, 330-5283.
This year’s pancake breakfast will have three stations again,two at the fairgrounds, and a third at the Wellborn Baptist Church on US90. A free shuttle bus runs back and forth from the church to the fairgrounds, so attendees can take advantage of easy parking at the church, enjoy their breakfast there, and then ride the shuttle to the fairgrounds. Breakfast chairperson is Beanie Brooks, 963-5906.
After the pancake breakfast, the children’s arts and crafts area will be open chaired by very talented Kathy Wotton, whohas lots of plans for fun things the children will be making and doing.
Many other members are busy recruiting sponsors, preparing the grounds, placing advertising and planning for the raffle, t-shirt sales and more and all could use volunteers.
