Bill Brothers is Director of Human Resources for the Suwannee County School System. School Board Superintendent Jerry Scarborough was unable to keep his scheduled date with Wellborn Neighborhood Watch.
A mutual respect and admiration exists between these two public servants. Both men care deeply concerned about educating our children.
Much of Bill's time is involved with hiring and firing teachers. (12 new teachers this year.) His check on academic & personal qualifications (background checks) extends to anyone doing business with Suwannee County Schools. He holds a doctorate and his local experience includes Vocational Agricultre teacher and County Extension Agent (4H).

"We are looking for what we can do to make our schools The Best possible! , Bill said, and he added "The recent "B" rating is good but we want an "A"."

Our school system is operating on a lean budget. We appreciate the stimulus money. There are state and federal mandates to meet.

A deplorable dropout statistic is 68%. Suwannee County School System is The Worst school system in the state for dropouts.
The check point is 12th grade. Analysis and remedies are on going.

Bruce Campbell asked "What is the Biggest Challenge"
The answer was " We need parent & community involvement . We are in education together".

WELLBORN NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH AND THE WHISTLE STOP (@ the blinker light) OFFER ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY FOR LEARNING AUGUST 13 (second Thursday) @ 10:30 A.M.
Meet your Commissioner, Billy Maxwell, and your Sheriff, Tony Cameron.

Paul F. Twing, National Rifle Association accredited instructor, plans to be at the WHISTLE STOP during coffee with Bill and Tony too. He will bring information about personal gun ownership.

GoldieMarie Fralick's husband kids, parents, brothers and friends were not about to allow her to sneak by her 50th birthday this month.
Her email reads:
My great 50th birthday gift was spearheaded by Ted and Nikki and Momma and a host of other helpers.
A swell surprise 50th birthday gathering for food, fun and fellowship was my welcome home greeting upon Ted and my return from my birthday celebration at Disney World. God is Good- we had good food, fun childhood stories (from my brothers of course) and pictures with the added bonus of family fellowship and fishing afterward. Life is good!!!

Summer visit at Grandparents Scott's Blueberry Farm had a serendipity (a little unexpected pleasure )for Seth. Here he is with his new feline friend named Hamilton. Bonnie thinks one can count up 26 toes. (Hamilton is a polydactyl.) and she adds he looks like he has shoes on the front paws. George suggested "This cat should be able to thumb a ride home when its time to be back for school."

This photo hopes to catch the pleasant ambiance of an evening together with Wellborn's do-ers and shakers!

Steve Smith was Wendell Snowden's chosen one to transition the purely social time to the hour of fine dining @ Tuckers in the Blanche Hotel, L.C. Pete's grace was poignant in appreciation of the service opportunities made possible by God's blessing the work of the WCA.

Master of Ceremony, Wendell, categorized those gathered (blogger estimates 80 of us) into Members, Volunteers and Sponsors. He bravely named names adding a disclaimer acknowledging fear of missing someone. (me too)

Sponsors included Vicky & Roger Waldron of All Springs Veterinary, Victoria Todd, John Koch, Newsman, Bob Watson, Live Oak Paint, Jerry Scarborough , School Board, Blueberry Growers, the Scotts and the Gibbons, Suwannee Graphics, the Kellys representing Windstream, the Newmans, radio&broadcasting, Pasco and Loretta Jarvis, Wellborn Baptist, Janet Snyder, the Williams.

WCA leaderhip roles are held by Wendell Snowden, with vice president Charles Osgood, Secretary Linda Dye, Treasurer, Christine Williams, Board Maso Martin.

Youthful groups helping at the festival were ROTC, Civil Air Patrol and Boy Scouts.

This year committee chair names are: Entertainment-Linda Dye. With a twinkle in his eye Wendell adds Wayne Brooks, and Charles Osgood and others for the entertainment provided at breakfast when the power failed, deleting the new grill fuctionality. FPL was summoned. WCA served 700 breakfasts just the same.
Kelsey McGarity chaired ticket sales. Country Store, it was Jackie Slaughter, assisted by Sheryl Osgood, The Blueberry Bakeoff was Ruth Ford assisted by Cathy Allred. Beanie Brooks, Jan Pearce and Pat Bezaire were the breakfast production crew with many assisting. Parade was Bobbi Fenderson with Tim Williams assisting. Grounds and Miscellaneous Wayne Brooks, assisted by Charles Osgood, Jack Allred and many others.

M.C Wendell reviewed goals reached like: WCA's downtown property Improvements, new grill, new members, school backpacks, community celebrations, ongoing charities.

Hometowners are encouraged to keep after EMS substation in Wellborn and a police substation here too.

2 bonus accomplishments in 2009 are the swell signs proclaiming "Wellborn Home of the Blueberry Festival". They are now permanently installed at all 4 compass point entrances to our hometown.
AND The WCA as now an IC3 Corporation. Work was done by volunteers after professional estimates ($1000) precluded hiring out WCA incorporation. It was done "in house" gratefully so.

The Best Part was when Kathie Snowden and daughter Christine Williams were given Member of the 2009 Year plaques. Wendell let us glimpse the problems of keeping it a secret at home. Everyone of us agreed that the twin awards were merited and our applause expressed heartfelt happiness to participate in the recognition.

Bloggers summary is that one more time it has been proved that working together is good and it is fun. It accomplishes bigger & better things, seen and unseen, than any one of us could make happen all by ourselves. AMEN
