Our 15 year old visiting grandson, William McCrea, went fishing on Huntsman's Pond successfully. He loved telling that a stretch hummer limo went to our neighbors house and never even saw him.
I recalled William's report when we were at prayer at Wellborn Methodist altar @ 7 A.M. today. Goldie Marie Fralick included thanksgiving for a Suwannee high school prom that was good all around. A safe and lovely prom does not just happen. It took the young people themselves, their parents and extended family loved ones, teachers, many committee volunteers, beauticians, sales people, church families, even unknown praying people caring. All of these brought them and their fun before the Lord.
Now all Wellborn My Hometown blog readers can join the chorus and say "Thank Thee, Lord".

Third April Saturday is always the Wellborn School Reunion held at Wellborn Baptist. The school closed its doors in 1967 after one hundred years of offering eduacation opportunity to hometown kids.
Wellborn grieved.
Irene Jernigan McCall is the pretty white haired lady on the right. She couldn't wait to tell that she will be Grand-Marshall enjoying the place of honor for the 15th annual Blueberry Festival '08 on the first weekend in June. She grew up in Wellborn and loves our hometown as much as any of us who enjoy that God brought us here to live now..
Irene was the originator of "Wellborn My Hometown" title for the history book published in 1997. The other lady in the photo is Pearlie Mae Walker who also loves Wellborn as her own hometown. She helped with the "Wellborn My Hometown" book
Pearlie Mae, Helen McMullen Cribbs and Denwood Morgan, with helpers Frances Tannehill Bullock and Boochie Bulloch have been the backbone of the Wellborn School Reunion for 28 years. Their plea is that younger Wellborn school people will volunteer. It is a precious tradition for those who share memories of going to school in our hometown.
Helen Cribbs told a wonderful story. She was thirteen when her daddy took her to Live Oak and explained that all her brothers were off to fight for our country and he really needed to have driver on the farm and did not drive himself. So Helen Mc Mullen was authorized to drive at age 13. Several others volunteered their early driving experiences.
A tender time at the Wellborn School Reunion is the memorial for those who were promoted to the heavenlies since the reunion a year ago.. This years named one are: Marylyn Carver Burnham, Grace Stansel Pennington Lee, Aileen Brannon Carver, Wilbur Brown. Jerome Law, and George Edward Poucher. Boochie struck the bell as everyone remembered their own connection to their deceased classmates.

Three local scenes were made into notepaper for me and now blogged for you to see and enjoy too. Jane Campbell artistry is now shared with you here
Bobbie and Don Olive's friendship merited us a gift of locally caught fish, frozen for our future enjoyment. That is a gift not so shareable on a blog but you could be rewarded for reading the blog with an invitation to a fish fry evening of fun. Its a country thing to do.
Wellborn's springtime loveliness is appreciated by many bicycle enthusiasts. They convene in nearby White Springs. Some choose the Wellborn's picturesque country roads route for their peddling on a Saturday. We see Sag Wagon stations where they find a rest stop with healthy snacks and the camaraderie of a shared hobby in the out of doors. Tis enjoyable for our bicycling guests and for us hometowners too.
The pecan trees are finally showing baby green leaves. Old timers say it is safe to plant now. Acreage along C-10 jumped the gun with a million baby tomatoe plants in long long white plastic rows, all irrigated for wholesale production.
Backyard gardeners are invited to bring their lovely fresh vegies to the WHISTLE STOP FARMERS MARKET the last Friday of each month. This "something new" is very welcome here.

Tax Season ended yesterday. Wellborn Post Office experienced no last minute filers squeezing under the wire. The local AARP volunteer tax-form helpers were Linda Young and Mike Holder @ the sites in Live Oak , Lake City and Branford, plus Jack Wilson and Paul Gettinger in the role of consultants as needed. Linda reported that they e-filed for one thousand people. That was more than ever before.
Jane Campbell made a swell set of note cards she created herself from her own artistic photographs taken around our hometown. The Post Office here is one of them. The logo on the back of the notes says

HERE IS THE KITCHEN CREW @ WELLBORN COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION APRIL BLUEBERRY PANCAKE BREAKFAST
Wayne Brooks, Abby Wotten, Barbara Rosdail and Beanie Brooks. Beanie tried to hide from my camera "because my picture has been in the blog too many times" she said. Her friend Barbara objected. "Oh no you don't. None of us would be here except for you, Beanie!" But they were all having fun.
The Yard Sale behind the community building, combined with the breakfast surely set a record for turnout. Parking lots were full up on all sides of the building and hardly a vacant seat inside. The tail enders for breakfast were offered a bargain price of $3:50 because the WCA ran out of sausages. oops Even so everyone was glad they came.
Out on Andrews Square bargain hunters shopped from table to table in between rain showers. The country store's new porch and spiffy'd up insides are because of Charles Osgood's donated hours, sweat & smarts. The building sheltered me, Kathie Snowden, Penny Present, Cathy Allred. Cheryl Osgood and Charles Osgood, himself. Many Little Miss Blueberry photos from years gone by are an attraction in that building now. Imagine my joyful nostalgia to find that the beautiful scrapbook Peggy Younghans made for the WCA 10th Anniversary will be part of the WCA 15th Anniversary on the first weekend in June, just about 8 weeks away. The committee looks for names and photos of the Little Miss and Mr. Blueberry for 2003, 2004, 2005. Kathie Snowden says what she really would like is a volunteer to tidy up the history memorobilia of the WCA. Kathie volunteers herself for the history in the making scrapbooking.
"WCA WELCOMES NEW MEMBERS" A beautifully lettered sign inconspicuously hung at an easy focus point mid room says so.
Robert Taylor celebrated the end of a busy PECAN season by inviting son David to accompany him for a blueberry pancake breakfast in Wellborn. David didn't deny that he might be politicking as well as enjoying breakfast out with his daddy.
Kate and Ray Rodehaver used to always roll friend Kenny Kauffman into breakfast in his wheelchair . April is Kenny's fourth month at Suwannee Health Care, Rm 214 (use the ambulance entrance to find him the easiest way).
Kate and Ray planned to go to Stephen Foster Park after breakfast to see the Antique Tractor and Engine show where friend and neighbor Herb and Betty Zobel are doing their annual participation and display of a swell collection that should be entitled "The Way Life Used To Be". Herb's stuff includes old toasters, flat irons, farm tools. But the thing that stole the show was an old fashioned milking machine under a cardboard cow whose very authentic looking cow plop is strategically placed .
Our own neighbor George Barthelmus and his wife are annual participants at the Antique Tractor and Engine Show at Stephen Foster. This year George displayed an extensive collection of oil cans, an estimated 200 of them!
