Debbie (whose last name I need) booked Rev. David Smith after learning on the internet of his talents with youth. David came to my hometown for the weekend Youth Rally at Wellborn Baptist. Debbie did not know that David grew up here! David's parents, Colleen and Russell Smith, volunteered to take their grandson kindergartener Josiah Smith to their river place.
David, Jennifer, and the four member team from Tampa had a great first night at WBC and will overnight Friday and Saturday at Smiths Bulb Farm road home.

In the foreground see Quianna G'Nai Dillard(a fourth grader), Charquita R Dillard and Pastor Matt Dillard Jr. The youngest member of this family, Matriel Dillard was asleep in the truck. (first grade makes a boy tired in the late afternoon.)
In the middle ground see the beginnings of the GLORY TO GOD IN CHRIST CHURCH sanctuary building; Footers and fill complete, cement slab next step.

Our County Commissioner Phil Oxendine made a motion today regarding establishing an EMS/Fire Station in Wellborn, but it died for lack of a commissioner to second the motion.
About twenty-five Wellborn citizens attended the Suwannee County Commission Meeting. We were 25 disappointed people. Several spoke when opportunity presented, reviewing the need and the availability of anticpated funds.
The outcome is this: October 5 there will be a workshop where Fire Chief Charlie Conner will bring specific statistics to give the big picture of EMS/FIRE service county-wide. Commissioner Oxendine and the Wellborn people will work together to bring a station which was promised years ago, to reality ASAP.

From Kathie (Wendell is doing his volunteer mediation this morning).

Yes, I think you should put it in the blog. Comm. Fleming listened to us all last night, but will not commit to if he will vote for Oxendine's motion (which of course is his prerogative). We are fairly confident we have a second to the motion, but will need another commissioner's vote to carry it.
The money will be there to do this, without the county incurring any debt or touching any reserves.

We need a show of Wellborn's concerned residents at the commission meeting, Tuesday morning 9am, city hall in Live Oak (across from Brown Lantern). This is very important. We are on the agenda for 9:30 - of course one never knows when exactly the issue will come up.

It seems everyone has a story (usually a sad one) about how long it has taken for the EMS to get to Wellborn to attend to a loved one. Wellborn is geographically large and growing in population rapidly.

The commissioners need to think about the WHOLE county instead of each one thinking about their own district. An EMS in Wellborn WILL benefit the whole county. All the vehicles, no matter where their home base, travel to where they are needed. Response times depend on where that vehicle is - when the call comes in. Another vehicle is good for EVERYONE. Plus, Wellborn has easy access to 90 (thru 10A), to I-10 up 137, and to Highway 136 across the north end of the county, and to 252 to the south.

On another note -- an important county meeting to attend will be Thursday evening in the Railroad Depot, I believe at 5:30pm, regarding the Fire Assessments. Therefore, the Wellborn Community Association's regular monthly meeting is being moved from the 8th to September 15th. I'll be getting the word about that out on Facebook and the website, and our telephone chairman, Ron Chappel, will be calling the members, as well.

Time: noon on Friday September 2, 2011.
Place: the Northwest corner of Lake Jeffrey (250) at 9th
Activity: ground preparation for the slab needed for Glory To God In Christ Church.
Pastor Matt Dillard teaches school in Columbia County or he would have been wielding a shovel himself.
Eugene Walker works from blueprints at the site for the new sanctuary.
Jack Pellicer (far background) joined Eugene and me at the truck tailgate for a drink of water. Temperature 91 degrees and the dug out square footage was considerable.
Eugene's add-on to this news coverage is that he is willing and able to work at a variety of jobs. Cell 209 7397
